Aravind (Yasho Sagar) is happy go lucky guy. He falls in love with Dhana Lakshmi (Sneha Ullal) who comes to her friend’s home in the same locality. He makes friendship with her and proposes his love but she refuses on the ground that she has already fallen in love with her childhood friend Balaji and waiting for his call. Dhanalakshmi asks Aravind to remain just friends but he says he continues to love her. He leaves for Culcutta to get a job while She is off to the same city as she finds that her Balaji is residing there. Both board on the same train and then friendship blooms into love. Will she choose Balaji or Aravind?

Analysis

Ullasanga Utasahnga is romantic fun film that explores love and friendship in cool manner. Director Karunakaran presents the movie entertainingly with cool visuals and peppy music. Despite wafer thin storyline, the narration is impressive. Karunkaran has packaged it in chic style. Second half peters out but on the while he succeeds in holding the audience’s interest. Highlights of the movie are good visuals, music (especially the songs) by G V Prakash Kumar and the romantic thread between the lead pair.

Karunakran has cleverly focused more on visuals and romantic scenes between newcomers Sneha Ullal and Yasho Sagar. Heroine searching for her childhood friend seems to be inspired by Only You (1994).

On the down side, the movie has nothing new to tell and has the hangover of Toliprema. Second half has some heavy scenes and unnecessary fight sequences. Some scenes are also very theatrical too.

One of the best scenes is a parody on Hutch ad commercial.

Performances

Yasho Sagar makes debut in the movie as lead hero. He is good in the second half and also has done well in songs. But he should focus more on performance. Shivaji has lent his voice for him. He looks like Nitin in most scenes. Sneha Ullal in typical Karunakaran’s movies makes confident debut in Telugu. She is charming both in traditional and modern attire. Comedy by Sunil and Suman Shetty is good.

Technically, full marks go to G V Prakash Kumar for his peppy numbers particularly the “Priayatama..” and “Chakori..” song are impressive. But background score is not that effective. Andrew’s visuals are mint cool. Digital Intermediative has further enhanced them.

Bottom-line!

Don't expect another Toliprema, but Karunkaran comes with good youthful entertainer this time. Ullasanga Utsahanga has cool visuals and peppy music. Good time pass and urban movie.
