Director producer Aditya Chopra was spotted enjoying a paid preview of Harry Baweja's love story 2050 on Thursday evening at Fame Cinema. Normally Aditya is rarely seen in public. The director leads a very quiet life completely away from the public eye. In fact he is not even spotted that easily within Yash Raj studios or at any award functions – no matter how prestigious.
So therefore when the normally reticent and secretive boss of Yash Raj studios was spotted in the cinema hall it came as a surprise to the normal public and some other Bollywood stars that were also present at the preview. But while the public may have been surprised to see the otherwise elusive Chopra amidst them, sources close to him say that this isn't a new practice for the director at all.
"Adi loves seeing films on their first day of release even if that means seeing more than just one film in a day. And he never sees it in Yash Raj Studios… he needs to see it with the aam junta so he can observe their reactions. He observes what moves them, what makes them laugh or what makes them cry," says the source.
In fact the director has followed a particular manner and habit in which he himself watches each film. It is therefore no wonder that both his films – Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge and Mohabbatein – have been a super hit at the box office.
"Every time Adi finishes seeing a film he goes home and jots down his review and points in a diary he has been maintaining for years now. Even before he actually decided to direct DDLJ, he had been maintaining this diary… this sacred notebook that had pointers about what moves the masses and what doesn't."
"After seeing dozens and dozens of Friday releases Adi had made these little pointers about what he thought had worked. He would also heavily criticize all that he thought shouldn't have been done. And till date he sends out his reviews on sms to close friends and associates after the film," adds the source.
Along with Adi Chopra another director who is quite regular with his sms reviews is Karan Johar who also makes sure he sends text messages to close friends about the weekly releases.
And in case you are wondering what Aditya Chopra thought of Love Story 2050… well the word has it that Chopra left 20 minutes before the ending of the film!
