It’s not just Justin Timberlake who dropped his pants for Madonna, for Scottish actor Gerard Butler too did the same for the stunning singer.

The ‘300’ star revealed that the Queen of pop also asked him to bare his bottom to give him a vitamin jab.

"I got in a B-12 shot in my a-- by..." the Hollyscoop quoted him as saying.

"I was sick, and she was a nurse basically. Guy introduced me to her and she said, ''You''re the sick one?'' and I said, ''Yes.’ Well, she was amazing. She just said, ''Drop your pants,'' Butler said.

"I stood there with my little bottom out, and she gave me a shot in the bum!" he added.

Batman goes laughing to the bank

Will 2008 go down in box office history with two completely different films creating records that have managed to beat the recessionary trends in industry?

On the one hand, there is Hollywood which has already witnessed a new record first-day opening with 'The Dark Knight' raking in $67.3 million at the box office.

And on the other hand there is Bollywood on the brink of a bonanza with the runaway hit 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' pitched to become one of the biggest hits of the year with a three-week gross of Rs 37 crore. And the two films have simply nothing in common, except the stupendous response they have managed to elicit amongst the 'aam janta'.

Batman's new adventure which has a staggering production cost of $180 million has created a furore that has already outstripped the frenzy created by 'Spiderman 3' . Spidey's third adventure in 2007 had the highest opening day record till now with collections measuring upto $59.8 million.

But the Joker's histrionics seem to have taken the world by storm, which is queuing up for a taste of Heath Ledger's mindblowing interpretation of Batman's arch rival. This post 9/11 'agent of chaos' - that's what he calls himself - might just end up as the biggest anti-hero of all times. In the 'Dark Knight' , he is already walking away with most of the applause, leaving the superhero to walk away into the horizon, even as the film concludes with an ambiguous end.

The Joker signs off with a maniacal grin, dangling against the skyline of Gotham City. Sadly, he may return, but minus the mesmerism of Heath Ledger.

Closer home, 'Jaane Tu' ...has managed to strike a chord with the burgeoning youth population of cine-goers with it's twenty-something look, lingo and longings. Till now, the box office record for love stories featuring a lead pair is held by the Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia teen romance, 'Bobby'. The 1973-film has an adjusted gross of Rs 85 crore.

While Imran Khan's 'Jaane Tu' might not be able to match this figure, it could well cross the record earnings of ' Maine Pyar Kiye' , the all-time blockbuster which is the second highest earner in this category. The Rajshree film which introduced Salman Khan and Bhagyashree in the classic rich boy-poor girl story grossed Rs 67 crore in its silver jubilee run.

The other two popular first-timer romances are 'Love Story' (Kumar Gaurav and Vijeyta) and 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla). Although the film seems to have taken the metros by storm, with maximum impact in Mumbai and Mysore, the smaller towns haven't been too ecstatic, according to box office reports.

This could be one of the reasons why 'Jaane Tu' might not be spoken in the same breath as Bollywood's blockbuster romances: 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' (Rs 110 crores), 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' (Rs 98 crores), 'Raja Hindustani' (Rs 83 crore). But the film has already overtaken last year's hot love story, 'Jab We Met' , which reaped a rich haul of Rs 30.59 crores at the box office.

‘Dark Knight’ Crosses $200M Mark In Record Time

Day after day, “The Dark Knight” continues to rewrite the box office record books.

The latest installment in the Batman franchise, starring Heath Ledger and Christian Bale, took in an estimated $20.9 million on Tuesday, brining the film’s five-day total to an astounding $203.8 million.

“The Dark Knight” passed the $200 million mark in a record-breaking five days, shattering the previous record of eight days which was held in a three-way tie by “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Spider-Man 2” and “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.”

Among the other records which now belong to “The Dark Knight” include the biggest opening weekend ever ($158.3 million) and biggest opening day ever at the box office ($67 million).

Both records were previously held by “Spider-Man 3.”

The Dark Knight's smashing record

The new Batman movie The Dark Knight smashed a lot of box office records, what with an earning of 155.3 million dollars in its opening weekend.

The new movie, starring Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhall, Michael Caine and the late Heath Ledger, has already made more money in its biggest day (66.4 m dollars on Friday) than Hancock, WALL-E and Kung-Fu Panda, to name three recent supersize hits, made in their respective opening weekends.

The movie's performance on Friday also set new records as Hollywood's biggest-ever opening day and biggest-ever single day.

Second highest grosser over the weekend was Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan starrer Mamma Mia! which took in 27.6 million dollars.

Will Smith's superhero movie Hancock came in third on the list by Exhibitor Relations, with an earning of 14 million dollars.

The movie adaptation of Jules Verne's classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth starring Brendan Fraser was the fourth highest grossing, raking in 11.9 million dollars.

The top five was rounded off by Hellboy II: The Golden Army which took in 10 million dollars over the weekend.

The Dark Knight Review

I'm a Batman fan from way back. I mean, I'm one of those guys who collects comic books and action figures and the Batman is my favourite superhero, second only to Spider-Man.

After watching, or rather while I was in the theatre, I realised that this movie – The Dark Knight– was nothing like I expected even after watching the teasers and trailers for the last couple of months. I can't say I'm disappointed at all, but I'm not entirely sure I would watch it again too soon.

Christopher Nolan is one of those directors who love immersing his viewers into the dark depths of the human psyche just like in The Prestige. The feel of The Dark Knight is a perfect pick up from his Batman Begins.The city scape's he takes you through are exactly what you'd imagine Gotham City to look like. Although I have to admit I wish it had more of the larger structures and monuments like in the older (but not so good) Batman movies. Nevertheless the scenes are artfully directed and Gotham comes to life in mute perfection of what the Dark Knight's stomping grounds would be like.

Christian Bale, although a brilliant actor overall, makes a great and extremely suave Bruce Wayne again, but he tends to sound too mean and sometimes muffled as the Batman, kind of like Rambo in a costume. It's been quite evident evening the previous movies that the Bat-suit is not an easy thing to frolic around in, let alone beat the stuffing out of the bad guys. But Bale makes it work.

I was disappointed with their choice of casting Maggie Gyllenhaal (40 Days and 40 Nights, Donnie Darko)as the new Rachel Dawes. She looks rather old in most scenes. I would have preferred Katie Holmes again. Harvey Dent is played by Aaron Eckhart from No Reservations and Thank You for Smoking. He's perfect as the passionate district attorney with a dark side.

Heath Ledger terrorises Gotham City

Heath Ledger as the Joker is simply superb. His mannerisms bring a new light to the infamous and insanely diabolical arch enemy of the Batman. This addition to the Batman's adventures will take you down the road of a mad man. This is the Joker on Acid. There must be just about two or three Batman stories that will depict this diabolical fiend of a character as this dark and psychotic. If you were expecting anything like the image portrayed in the comics or Jack Nicholson's version, think again. He's dark and twisted like never before and even though I'm a traditionalist at heart, I think this is the one Joker you can identify with considering the movies of the here and now.

The storyline is very intricately written with great dialogues that will have viewers talking about them and repeating whenever they can. The technology employed in the movie as part of Batman's gear is in keeping with today and I want some!

'Nuff said! But what I most loved about the movie is the slow build up to the climax that will give viewers a real insight into how one twisted mind can so easily manipulate the human morale and bend it at whim.

The Dark Knight is a journey of the characters into what most of us already know about the Heroes and Villains alike, but the unfolding story will justify the reasons why they are the way they are and their internal turmoil prevails.

The film has its share of loud noises and big bangs with just the right amount of effects to make you sit up and lean forward in anticipation for the next. Don't expect too much action though; this is more of a dark psycho thriller (without too much of the blood and gore) rather than a bright and sunny superhero flick. That's not a bad thing considering the hero in question is not of a sunny and bright disposition.

Some of the action sequences though are a bit repetitive and you may just end up saying – 'Hey wasn't this in the last one? ' While that may or may not seem true, the visual effects and damage caused is handled well enough. Let's just say the level of chaos has been taken up a notch since the last Batman movie.

On the whole I did like the film, but being a Batman fan and like I said before, a traditionalist, there were a couple of things that bothered me about and it's just possible that there are others who may feel the same way. I won't spoil it by telling you what those things are, but I will recommend going to a good theatre to watch this movie. With the kind of visuals and sounds The Dark Knight brings to the table, you want the best in both sound and screen.

Brangelina's twins' pics worth $11m

They may be just a day old, but Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins are already worth 11 million dollars, with a paper shelving out the amount for their first picture. The Tomb Raider actress delivered a boy named Knox Leon and a girl called Vivienne Marcheline yesterday at a maternity clinic in Nice on the French Riviera. And the couple has already sold the first photograph of the baby celebrities to a US paper for a whopping 11 million US dollars. Gynaecologist Michel Sussmann said that 33-year-old actress and the twins were in the pink of health. "Everything went smoothly. The children are doing very well, the mother is doing very well and the father is doing very well," The Daily Telegraph quoted Sussmann, as saying. Though Pitt had already attended the birth of their daughter Shiloh, Sussman said that he "was very calm and was not at all disturbed by the operation. When the babies arrived he was very euphoric and Jolie had a 'blinding smile'".

Kung Fu Panda - Review

Kung Fu Panda is one of those films that grips you right from the start, a never ending roller coaster ride of thrills, action, adventure and of course a lot of heart. Besides the CGI animation used is a must watch for animation fanatics.

I was laughing, smiling and guffawing at Po, the main protagonist (voiced by Jack Black) and his misadventures at becoming a Kung Fu expert. This was certainly a flawed character, one that a lot of people can relate to because he dreams, he's funny and he can laugh at himself. Also, the story was pretty clear and easy to follow because the storytelling was well crafted and the animation was paired well with characters brought vividly to life by some of the most famous names in Hollywood.

Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman are downright excellent as the main characters, and Ian McShane as the bad dude gave it the right fearful presence. Other big name stars don't shine as much, but that's because their roles are rather limited in the film. But that's still okay because the animators should be given equal credit for delivering the funny, action and heart elements of this movie in an effective, amazing and AWESOME manner. Visually, this movie is stunning. Some subtle points to notice are all those scenic shots of the Chinese mountains, bodies of water and the bridge scene.

At the end of this noodle eating, Kung Fu film all I am left with are just memories of what older animation films used to be like and the glory that they brought along. But I must say that Dreamworks has done a wonderful job and it seems like they are gearing up to re-enter the world of animation films with a bang.

So go ahead, leave your worries and other worldly possessions behind and enjoy the eternal peace and tranquil that you will get from the Dragon warrior Po in Kung Fu Panda.

PS: I was left craving for more at the end... for food and the film as well.

Will Simth's Hancock - Movie Review

Meet John Hancock (Will Smith), a superhero who spends a healthy chunk of his day rescuing people from burning buildings, crazed bank robbers, accidents and so on. Unlike your conventional superhero who more often than not bends over backward for the masses, Hancock has certain anger management issues and he pretty much does things his way, no matter what the outcome.

To make matters worse he's got a drinking problem so it's no surprise that he isn't extremely popular with the denizens of Los Angeles; in fact they pretty much hate his guts.

To improve his public image we have PR executive, Ray Embrey played by Arrested Development's Jason Bateman who along with his idyllic family coaxes Hancock to mend his ways. As expected, Hancock turns over a new leaf through the course of the film, people start loving him unconditionally and everyone lives happily ever after again.

The movie starts off with a bang as we're introduced via an awesome chase sequence to a superhero who like all of us petty mortals suffers from mood swings and the occasional hangover.

Hancock's heart is in the right place but the copious amounts of alcohol flowing through his veins make him a Bull in a China shop…only it's not an actual shop but the city of LA we're talking about here.

This whole Bad Ass Superhero bit was working just fine for me until director Peter Berg (The Kingdom) felt the need to reform the protagonist thus transforming this comedy/action flick into a boring soap opera eventually.

From then on you have a lot unnecessary emotional fare till the credits roll, hampering the end battle in the process that by the way felt more like a tiny skirmish than an epic ending synonymous with more superhero flicks.

Luckily for us, Will Smith was his charismatic self as usual playing both the renegade as well as the reformed superhero with aplomb. He almost carried the entire movie on his shoulders but was bogged down eventually by the ridiculous "plot twists".

Jason Bateman was charming in his supporting role as Hancock's mentor of sorts while Charlize Theron who plays his doting wife, harbouring a dark secret of her own is her usual pretty self.

At the end of the day I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with the movie. Sure it was enjoyable watching Hancock wreck half of LA under the influence of a drunken stupor but the sudden transition from awesome action flick to emotional drama is what leads to its eventual downfall. Sure it's not as good as Iron Man or The Incredible Hulk but it's still a decent superhero flick that's well worth a watch.

‘Hancock’ Powers to the Top of Box Office

LOS ANGELES — Will Smith’s “Hancock” scored a strong $66 million in domestic ticket sales over the weekend, affirming his drawing power but leaving Hollywood short of the peaks it hit during last year’s Fourth of July holiday period.

Since opening with previews Tuesday evening, “Hancock,” Sony Pictures Entertainment’s comic action movie about a damaged superhero, took in $107.3 million at the domestic box office and $78 million more from 50 countries around the world, studio executives said.

That marked a personal triumph for Mr. Smith, as audiences flocked to the film despite soft reviews. “He’s just the guy everybody loves,” said Rory Bruer, the Sony Pictures distribution president. “Everybody wants to see what he’s up to.”

Mr. Bruer noted that the film was Mr. Smith’s eighth consecutive No. 1 opening, beginning with “Men in Black II,” which opened over the July Fourth holiday in 2002.

The current Top 10 films took in about $155.5 million for the weekend, down 2.9 percent from $160.1 million for the Top 10 during the equivalent weekend last year, according to figures compiled by Screenline, the box-office reporting service.

“Hancock,” an unusually complex take on the superhero genre, took in far less over the extended holiday period than did Paramount Pictures’ toy-based action film “Transformers,” which had $155.4 million during the equivalent period last year.

“Kit Kittredge: An American Girl,” a G-rated film, took in just $3.6 million over the weekend for Picturehouse to place No. 8 as it expanded in its third weekend from a handful of screens to more than 1,800 in a bid to capitalize on the popularity of the American Girl doll line.

Other top performers included “Wall-E” from Walt Disney, which placed at No. 2 with $33.4 million in sales for its second weekend; “Wanted” from Universal Pictures, which was No. 3 with $20.6 million in its second weekend; and “Get Smart” from Warner Brothers, which was No. 4 with $11.1 million in its third weekend.

Spider Man-3 Not Upto Expectations

It is darker and more complex than its two predecessors but does it mean Spider-Man 3 will transport the audiences to thrilling new heights? The law of diminishing returns has certainly hit the new Spidey but faithful audiences could still find the film, which reportedly cost over $200 million, engrossing, especially in the last 15 minutes when Spiderman fights not one but two villains.
At least one of those villains, the Sandman, overshadows the film's hero on many occasions. The transformation of an ordinary mortal into the Sandman is one of the new film's most dramatic scenes.
There is a clear difference in the way the two villains are presented. While we see the birth of Sandman about 30 minutes into the film, the rebirth of photographer Eddie Brock into greedy and superman villain called Venom takes place only in the second half.

Sam Raimi, who directed the previous installments, returns to the franchise with the key players intact but adds Thomas Haden Church as the unusual Sandman and Topher Grace as a shameless photographer Eddie Brock whose greed turns him into a monster.
With much emphasis on creating a conflicting web of emotions for Peter Parker and his super ego, the film suffers on the action front. And yet, one would not have complained had the film's darker side and complexities been brought out well. For most part though, Raimi cannot give the proceedings depth. Everything looks sincere but there is no real conviction in the emotional display. There are no moments that stab one's heart or quicken ones pulse.
Even though many of the performances, especially by Tobey Magurie in the title role, and Kirsten Dunst as his love interest, are adequate, they do not endow the film with anything memorable.

Everyone including Peter Parker (the karmic avatar of Spider-Man), his girlfriend Mary Jane Watson and friend Harry Osborn go through motions of trust, betrayal and redemption but in a shallow way. And the sketchiness of the whole thing becomes tiresome after a while, and you almost start praying that Spider-Man be summoned to save a life or two instead of trying to save his own soul.
When the movie opens, Peter Parker, who still lives in a ramshackle building and has problems paying his rent and get a permanent job as newspaper photographer, seems to be secretly enjoying his success as an angel for the distressed.

But when a black substance mysteriously clings to his scooter, things begin to change for the worse, starting with the transformation of the familiar red and blue suit to a deep black. Along with that, Peter becomes stronger but also greedy and callous. He is not surprised when his beloved aunt (Rosemary Harris, a brilliant actress in a small but well performed part) gives a small lecture on the evil of revenge.

Along with Maguire and Dunst, James Franco also picks up from the end of Spider-Man 2 where he learned the truth (at least in part) about his father. A troubled soul, he loves his friend Peter Parker but also feels compelled to avenge his father's death.

To add to the complications, Mary Jane becomes increasingly insecure and is worried by the attention Spider-Man gets from another young woman (Bryce Dallas Howard, last seen in M Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water). Like many other performers specially the Oscar nominated James Cromwell (Babe), she too is wasted in the film.

Spider-Man 3 has kicked in the lucrative summer season. But one doesn't think that other big budget films in the pipeline should worry too much about the new Spidey stealing the business from them in the coming weeks.
